Hungry for something beyond this world?

Imagine walking into a shop and asking “can I have bread please?” and the shopkeeper said: “I am the bread!” You'd think they're crazy.

Jesus said something like this. He had previously shown he was able to feed thousands of people, and they came back to Jesus to ask for more bread.

How would you expect Jesus to answer? This is what he said:

"I am the bread of life. He who comes to me

will never go hungry, and he who believes in

me will never be thirsty.” (The Bible, John 6:35)

That's a strange answer. The people asked him for bread, and Jesus replied, I am the “living bread”. So what did Jesus mean?

If Jesus gave the people bread, they would still need to ask him again each time they got hungry. Food is essential, but it is not the most important thing. Without food, we will physically die. Jesus is saying without him we will spiritually die because he is the source of life.

Do you feel something in life isn’t right, that you're restless? This is because we are made to know Jesus. The good news is Jesus can give us life. Our spiritual hunger and thirst are satisfied in Jesus.
